Something I Wish I Had Done Differently

Subaru Impreza Wagon STi JDM

Today, I can't think of anything that I would have done differently aside from little things like choosing a different car than the Chrysler Pacifica. Why, do you ask? The Pacifica is a gas guzzler and has the largest blind spot, which I call the blind zone, of any other car I have driven in the past. I should have stood firm on my favorite car, the Subaru, but I didn't. The hubby really wanted it and now we see that we should have gone Subaru like I had wanted. Live and learn.

Michele Bachmann Takes Issue With ‘Radical Environmentalists,’ Signals Stance On Minimum Wage

Is she forgetting Jeffrey Immelt? Talk about private sector experience, Immelt knows a whole lot about shifting jobs overseas and not paying federal taxes by using corporate tax loopholes. Her vision for the American worker is extremely frightening, she has been speaking about eliminating the minimum wage and where is she going next, eliminating child labor laws. I mention this because it has been discussed by other GOP politicians. Eliminating the E.P.A is insane, protecting our environment proactively is fiscally more responsible than cleaning up after the fact.

Ron Paul Addresses Hurricane Irene, Says ‘There’s No Magic About’ FEMA (VIDEO)

Easy for him to say, back in 2008 during the horrendous ice storm in western MA. FEMA and MEMA were absolutely essential in everything they did to help the region. He seems to forget that not all states are equal to the task of managing natural disasters. Since states can’t operate on deficit budgets, they may not have the resources available to be able deal with the damages incurred from natural disasters, why condemn the poorer states if FEMA can assist them to balance out the inequity amongst the states?

My Favorite Ways to Procrastinate

The view from the 7th floor of the NYU Library (giant atrium in the middle). This reminds me of something, but I can’t quite pointpoint what (and no, not the “harvesting babies” scene in Matrix). Any other ideas?

I try not to procrastinate any longer but when I was a college student I was a very capable procrastinator. Soap operas and good science fiction would be my tools of choice whenever I was procrastinating over writing my term papers. Once I got to writing, I was fine, it was simply the case of getting started. Always the hardest part, starting.

Do you believe in UFO’s?

I think that the odds of us being the only ones in the universe are smaller than the odds of us not being alone. Why would we be the only ones blessed to be alive in this wonderful world and universe? We can share existence and life, there is more than enough to go around. I feel very generous, if there is God and I do want to believe that there is God, I would think that He is generous as well. Why would he just create us? Why not others to suit other galaxies and universes?

I don’t understand why certain people feel threatened by the thought of other life-forms sharing the universe with us. It isn’t ours. Actually, I wish that we as a race could come to accept that the Earth isn’t ours, as well. We have only been appointed its steward, a job that we are failing at miserably. It would be nice if at some point a more advanced civilization would come, take pity on us, and offer some really good advice as to how we can turn the harm we have inflicted on our planet around. Wouldn’t that be a wonderful gift. We can’t wait for help from a higher plane, we need to take action now and continue to tell our respective governments that urgent action needs to be taken about the environment and our awful reliance on fossil fuel.

It’s interesting how easily one can go from one topic, UFO’s, to another topic, the environment, when you’re engaged in a free-flowing thought process, where the words flow from your head directly to your fingers, that tap the keyboard, that then appear on the computer screen. Funny, how instantaneous, it all is. I like the way I sometimes don’t know where the post will go or how it will end.

In any negotiation, compromise is always the goal, of course both parties will argue their points as convincingly as possible to persuade the other party to come over to their position, but if that doesn’t work than compromise is the solution. And then you have the GOP. You can’t in any manner, shape or form say that democrats do not compromise, they do in spades. The GOP with their obstinate refusal to consider revenue increase on those that can afford it are bringing this country down. Over in Europe, France and Germany are being proactive about the revenue question because they are up close to what happened in London. They realize that the privatization of all things in the public arena is bad for democracy as a whole. They also realize that wide gaps in income equality due to stagnant wages of workers and the predominance of the financial sector leads to greater private household debt for middle class families in order to maintain their standard of living and it leads to public debt because with the decline of revenue and increased demand of social programs it all leads to debt. Unbridled capitalism has reached its apex, and it isn’t looking good for society as a whole.

When is it okay to lie?

I’ll qualify my following statement with the caveat that lying doesn’t do anyone any good and once you start it’s hard to stop and it diminishes trust with everyone involved and it is just not good all around. However, in the rare instance where you know with as much certainty that you could ever know that the truth will do more harm than good than I would say it is okay to not tell the truth.

Miles to go

I recommend walking it off, that way you physically walk off the anger, automatically remove yourself from the situation thereby not aggravating it and pumping your brain with some seratonin and dopemine, both good brain chemicals that make you feel better, that are naturally excreted into your brain when you do physical activity.

I am so not good with these topics. Scott, our fearless topic-giver, was giving an example such as smoke + fog makes smog. I think he then used the word portmanteau. I’m wondering why is he using a French word? A portmanteau is a coat holder or a hanger. I, then, reread the topic and it’s illuminating directions and then lightbulb appeared over my head, a ha! According to Scott, a portmanteau is also when two words are combined to explain a situation. So fair enough, by putting “port” (translated in English,to hold) with “manteau” (translation coat) you have created a combination of two words to mean one word; portmanteau or hanger. But, then why use portmanteau, translation, coat hanger, as the actual word for the word combination? It is simply a pet peeve of mine, why does the English language simply take French words and use them for their own devices? The English have been doing it for far longer than the French and the French actually have an Academies Francaise who frowns on the anglicization of the French language. Why don’t the English have something like that as well? English is a lovely practical language, why adorn it with unnecessary French words, when you have so many great ones at your disposal? Instead of portmanteau, why not combidef or deficomb or defcom and make it sound all sinister when you make up a word by combining two words to define a situation?

What scares me is that I remember the scenario but I don’t remember if I read about it in Alternet or Motherjones or if I saw something like this being prosecuted on Law & Order with Sam Waterson going after the fraudster on Wall Street after one of them panicked and silenced a guy. Alleged truth can be so much more sinister than fiction. Yet Governor Perry hasn’t any problem praying to God and asking for his help. It fundamentally astounds me that he and others cannot see the blatant hypocrisy of their actions and beliefs. There is no shame.
