Time to vent.

I have been venting quite a bit with my comments on the Huffington post. Since the GOP Presidential candidates have been spewing their nonsense about what is ailing the country, whose fault it is and how they are the best qualified to lead us out of our economic malaise, I have been writing for at least 2 hours a day, writing counter point to each and every false statement made by whoever is trying to get a headline. I have been extremely generous with my comments on Michele Bachmann, I believe that she is a hypocrite for accepting federal agricultural subsidies for the family farm yet decrying any federal spending for the less fortunate. That’s just one example, ever since Governor Perry has thrown his hat in, I’ve been faithfully reminding the readers that he has been chasing federal monies to help his state ever since he was elected Governor of Texas. I haven’t been as vocal with Romney, except to point out that when he was Governor of MA, the state was 47th in job employment, which is pretty lousy and he was the architect of health insurance mandated coverage plan that the government has adopted on the federal level. He is trying to distance himself and I critique that because it shows a lack of character.

With the state of the economy as it is, I write daily to vent because I, as so many Americans, am living in a state of constant stress and to hear the GOP presidential candidates campaign on a platform that refuses to address the lack of revenue in the deficit reduction talks and only address spending cuts that will overwhelmingly affect the less fortunate, makes me see red. Thank goodness I can write about it and get it out of my system, because no matter where my stress level is, as long as I can vent on the screen, I can sleep at night without any trouble.

Predicting the Future of Technology

Seagull-Clear-Sky-2

I'd like for us to take a break from expanding our use of technology, can't we take a breather for a decade or so? Until we cease and desist on complete reliance on fossil fuels and all embrace green technology, I'm not interested in speculating about technology.

TV SoundOff: Sunday Talking Heads

Dear Jason, thank you for distilling the GOP dribble into laugh out loud good reading. I needed that because this economy is making me very sad and I see no end in sight which makes me even sadder. No one is speaking to how is the middle class going to continue with higher education continuously being out priced, health care premiums increasing and wages being cut, if you are lucky enough to have a wage. No one on these panels is speaking to the fact that we are becoming a third world country. If we could pinpoint a moment in time in the past 35 years where the trajectory was set for this outcome, I would love to know what policy or choice was it that set us in motion to get to this point. But even with knowing it would there be a political will to reverse the policies that got us here? Globalization, decreased presence of the unions, replacement of pensions for 401K plans, financial excess present in campaigning, etc. I don’t see how because too many are doing quite well with the game as is.

Symptoms of the Bush-Obama Presidency

Each time I begin to question how did we get here? How did the disparity between the ideals espoused by candidate Obama and President Obama come to pass? I get back to the machinery that is Washington D.C and the cogs and whistles that drive it regardless of who is in the White House. It always brings me back to the mega-bucks that are involved in campaigning, money that us, the majority of the nation, can’t offer, the mega-bucks involved in lobbying, mega-bucks everywhere, in places where money has no business being, in the public domain. Until we get rid of Citizen’s United and make public campaign reform something real, our politicians will only be beholden to the highest bidder. Moreover, just as importantly, until the news media is divorced from profit and ratings wars, our news coverage will continue to be the meaningless froth we have become accustomed to. It is a sad indictment of our mainstream news media when Jon Stewart and Steven Colbert offer better more meaningful analysis of the political and economic landscape to their viewers.

A Soundtrack for My Life So Far This Year

Keith Richards Vector Image

A soundtrack that comes to mind, not my creation of course. I can't even think of how to create a soundtrack. Anyway, Keith Richards solo albums , number one and number two. He is amazing. Once you get into them, you can't get his gravelly voice out of your head. It's a soothing gravelly voice, nothing like his buddy Mick Jagger. I love Mick, but Keith stays in my head for a lot longer.

If you had control of the weather, what would it be like outside today?

I wasn’t able to control the weather today, but as luck would have it, I didn’t have to, because today was a glorious day in the Northeast. I couldn’t have asked for better. It was sunny with just enough of a breeze to keep the pesky black flies away and keep the humidity to basically zero. The temperature was warm, in the low 80’s. I cannot think of better weather. The weather was great for any type of sporting event such as tennis and golfing. Working in the garden was also a pleasure with the breeze keeping the flying insects at bay. Swimming and then sunning yourself by the pool afterwards was tailor-made for days like this. As the evenings wanes, we are still blessed by a lovely cool night. The breeze offsets any need for air-conditioning, boon for those energy conscious folk, also a blessing for the wallet as well. I must say, today was perfection and a gift from the weather gods. Thank you, thank you.
