Obama Threatens To Veto GOP’s ‘Cut, Cap And Balance’ Plan

President Obama needs to continue to state his case to the American people and say that the republicans are guilty of excessive spending and that they are reneging on their financial obligations. They are in essence behaving like dead-beats. The Bush tax cuts themselves are a spending spree, those lost revenues are monies that were spent but not accounted for in the budgets during those years. Those expenditures were simply kicked down the road to be dealt with a later time and now it is time to pay the piper. The republicans need to buckle down and pay their debts, because it is their debt and the democrats have forgotten to call it for what it is. The Bush tax cuts has hurt this economy for a decade now and will for even longer. The worst policy decision ever.

Planes, trains or automobiles which is your favorite way to travel 500 miles?

Five hundred miles is quite a way to go. I don’t mind driving and I have driven over 500 miles in the past, New York to Disney World in Orlando, Florida twice, but at this stage of my life, it wouldn’t be my preferred method of transportation. Air travel on the other hand, would be the quickest way to get 500 miles under my belt but air travel is not what it used to be. It was civilized and exciting 20 years ago. The seats were larger, people were less stressed, things were free. It was pleasant. Nowadays it is stressful to the millionth degree from start to finish. I know that next year when I get to go to France, (finally) I am not looking forward to the plane ride but it is the only way across the Atlantic Ocean.

My ultimate dream for traveling 500 miles would be to take the Orient Express. I don’t know much about it, aside from the wonderful Agatha Christie mystery titled “Murder on the Orient Express”, but after taking the TGV first class, several times in France, I’ve decided that train travel is the only way to go. I’ve taken Amtrak to and from Boston to New York, it’s okay, but it is nothing like the train in France. Hopefully, one of these years, the Americans will embrace high-speed rail like in Europe. Once you experience it, you don’t want to go back to driving or show trains or buses. Trains are great and one of these decades I will take a wonderful vacation aboard on the Orient Express from start to finish wherever that may be. I’m adventurous.

My Longest Road Trip

Athens, Greece 2007

It was either driving to Disney World in Orlando, Florida from Blandford, MA or backpacking through France, Italy and Greece. The Disney World trip was a 3 day road trip of the 4 of us, my husband, our two little ones and myself. The backpacking trip was myself and my little sister and it was a solid 5 weeks of traveling and seeing everything we could. Both experiences were great.
