We can only hope that the original letters, journals and diaries kept by Washington­, Jefferson, Adams, Madison, Hamilton be kept safe in our archives so that we shall always have their own words to remind us of our actual history. I have spent some time reading the biography of George Washington based on his personal correspond­ence and he grappled with the many implicatio­ns of slavery primarily the morality versus the economic reality of the time. Thank goodness that our Founding Fathers were prolific writers, it amazes me to no end how at that one time period we were privileged to have an amazing array of such brilliant men who respected history and education and freedom above all else. Their legacy of documents shows us how they battled amongst themselves searching for the best form of government and how they say this country as a true land of opportunit­y. That is something to be respected.
