According to a relatively new study, humans aren’t made to sit and whatever time you spend sitting, can’t be redeemed. Sitting is detrimental to our health, according to this study.
Do I buy into this concept? Not completely, we are meant to be active and mobile but I don’t see how sitting can be that detrimental to our health. Balance is the key to life and good health. Sitting all day can’t be good for your circulation or your metabolism but I’m sure that a good brisk walk either in the morning or the evening for at least 45 minutes will fix whatever ails you and keep your circulation and metabolism in good condition. I must confess that ever since I read about this study in Times magazine, I am mindful of sitting for too long. So, whenever I’m on the phone, I pace around in circles, at home, I make extra trips up and down the stairs for more exercise and I walk, weather permitting, for 50 minutes in the morning. The researchers in the article went so far as to examine how to incorporate exercise at the work station. That is how serious they were about the evils of sitting. I think the researchers went a little extreme but I’m glad that I stumbled onto the article because keeping your body active is important for your health and lengthening your quality of life.
