Tell us about the one experience that has changed your life.
The first thought that came to mind was having a baby. There is nothing before or since that has changed my life or my heart in such the same life altering way than having my babies.
I am not saying that it is better than falling in love with your life partner. There is no better or worse, it isn't a competition, it is simply different.
Becoming a mother starts from the second that you hear the heartbeat at the doctor's office and then feel the butterfly sensation in your belly, alerting you to the baby's movement inside. It then progresses to the baby doing somersaults, kicking you in the ribs, getting the hiccups and overall communication that is intensely private between you and the baby. Already you are in love with the little one inside and then the day that he or she emerges from your womb after an intense battle of you fighting against gravity, it feels like you are both victorious and what you thought was the pinnacle of feelings before, are eclipsed by the rush of emotions when you see that tiny face for the first time. The falling in love phase begins and it is amazing, every new discovery sends you over the moon in love.
This may sound corny but making a baby, carrying it to term, delivering it and then raising the baby is in my opinion, a life altering experience that has profoundly altered my understanding of what unconditional love is, once you are a parent, then you get it.
I get it.
I knew you would
I feel that way as well although there have been other things over the years that have made my life different, that have gotten me to this wonderful place in my life, having children is definately at the top of the list. Sometimes I look at them in awe and think “I made that.”, especially when they do something cool…
. Also having children made me think more about my choices and how I wanted to live my life which had a profound effect on me throughout their lives. Recently my notion of unconditional love has been tested and I am proud to say that I get it too!
Isn’t it a wonderful fellowship to be a part of? I knew that you would get it, you are an exceptional person all around Jackie.:)
Thank you sweet friend. I needed that comment today.
What a beautiful account of an almost indescribable feeling. The same and also so very unique for every Momma out there. Thanks for sharing.
Being a mommy is such a singular job; there isn’t another like it and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I knew that you would get it.
Not crazy. Wonderful.
Being a mother has been the best experience of my life and I wouldn’t change it for anything.
Me too, me too.:D
